Maurice Jones-Drew: The Prospect

Back in 2006, MJD was a Round 2 NFL Draft pick. The projection model was a big fan with an overall score of 67. To put that into perspective with the running back drought of late, just two major conference runners have a higher score in 2015 and just one that was drafted in 2014 escliped Jones-Drew’s mark.

In addition to his rock-solid overall score, Maurice Jones-Drew had no holes in his metric profile.

Other than Reggie Bush and Charles Sims, no running back prospect since MJD had a better receiving score at a similar size and speed.

Production

Maurice Jones-Drew started his career on fire with seasons of 17, 14, 18 PPR PPG in his first three seasons. All told, MJD neary hit 500 career VBD according to profootballreference.com.

Market Value

After an ADP of 137 prior to his rookie season, Maurice Jones-Drew had six straight seasons in the top-15 of ADP in his prime. The fade was swift going to 32 and then 157 last year. According to ADP, Maurice Jones-Drew was a slight notch below Adrian Peterson at similar ages in his prime. Peterson held his value for an extra couple of seasons, while MJD is now out of the NFL. Steven Jackson was another ADP peer in terms of a prolonged and high-level peak for 5+ years.
