The common theory behind rookie wide receivers is that they just do not “pan out” until their second or primarily third season in the NFL. Whether this is due to a learning curve, maturity level, rookie quarterback, tough match up, bad situation around them, or lack of usage the final result is typically the same. So what is the appeal of Allen Robinson the former standout receiver from Penn State, and, current rookie on the Jacksonville Jaguars? I’ll tell you what it is. It’s that he’s dealing with everything I listed above, but, still finding consistency in his week to week fantasy production.

Over the first 7 weeks of Robinson’s career he has seen a serious increase in weekly targets.

  • WEEK 1: 3 Targets
  • WEEK 2: 6 Targets
  • WEEK 3: 10 Targets
  • WEEK 4: 7 Targets
  • WEEK 5: 11 Targets
  • WEEK 6: 9 Targets
  • WEEK 7: 7 Targets

Despite a steady rotation of receivers playing opposite Allen his consistency of looks from Blake Bortles has not tapered off. Over the past 5 week Allen Robinson is averaging a stellar 8.8 targets per game, and, his conversion rate of target-to-reception over that same period is 66%. Based on that previous 8.8 targets-per-game average over the last 5 weeks, and, his 66% reception percentage, Allen Robinson is averaging 5.8 receptions per game which would be good for 65 yards receiving per outing. By PPR standards that is an average of 12.5 points per week without factoring in any big plays or touchdowns.

Lets review Robinson’s PPR output over the past 5 weeks.

  • WEEK 3: 14.90
  • WEEK 4: 8.80
  • WEEK 5: 10.10
  • WEEK 6: 14.80
  • WEEK 7: 16

Allen Robinson has totaled 64.6 points over that 5 game span which is: twelve more points than Brandin Cooks’ last five games , five-and-half more points than Mike Evans has all season, and, even seven more points than Jordan Matthews has all year as well. Even versus the most elite in his rookie class he is not far behind over the past 5 weeks.

  • Kelvin Benjamin: 81.9
  • Sammy Watkins: 70.5
  • Allen Robinson: 64.6

Without a doubt  I am sure Allen Robinson is owned in all dynasty formats, and, for good reason. However, now is the time to buy Robinson at his absolute cheapest before he and Blake Bortles find more ways to put touchdowns on the scoreboard. He is already emerged as his quarterbacks favorite possession receiver, and, the clear-cut most talented wideout on this Jacksonville Jaguars roster. This is a young team that is full of young talent, but, the consistency we have seen from Robinson so far in his rookie campaign is no fluke. He is a WR3 today, and, with this continued consistency over time, a future WR1 tomorrow.

* Allen Robinson is on pace to finish the year with a final stat line of: 78 Rec, 988 Yards, 2.2 TDs.
