Looking back at recent NFL Draft classes in the projection model is a hobby of mine. Where were the caution flags? Where did we need to take a stand?
One thing about the 2013 wide receiver class was the questionable scores of Tavon Austin, Cordarrelle Patterson, and Justin Hunter – all highly drafted by the NFL. The athleticism scores were strong, but each had concerns that dragged down their overall projection model scores.
We love the athletic prospect, plain and simple. We assume growth as a player and that top-shelf athleticism will transfer into title-winning production for our dynasty teams. The problem with that is an ‘athlete’ in college that did not produce at an above-average level has not done much in the way of transferring that athleticism to the field at their position. Like a pass-rusher, the transition from speed to power is an important skill.
