Roundtable discussions draw in a number of viewpoints and emphasize the power of a group focusing on central questions. Expect dynasty roundtables to be more frequent going forward.
How much more rope are you giving Melvin Gordon? Is the O-line and overall offense bad enough in San Diego he gets a rookie season pass?
Jordan Spires: I do think the Offensive Line and general poor play of the offense can give Melvin a pass. Ball security continues to be an issue for him, but even main stays like Rivers, Woodhead, Gates and Ladarius can’t keep the offense humming along and when you can’t challenge a defense through the air, they can load 8-9 guys in the box to stop the run. Once they do that, against SD’s very poor OL, no RB has a chance. Melvin might be the cheapest potential RB1/2 you can buy right now as owners are probably ready to jump ship for a late 1st early 2nd type of rookie pick even if they invested top 4 picks in him.
Tim Torch: Gordon gets a ton of rope from me. Bad defense, TERRIBLE offensive line, talent backing him up, and a coach that is on the hot seat. If someone is selling him for a late first or early second round pick I would not hesitate to purchase Gordon. I am confident he will bounce back and provide a secondary sell opportunity.
Tim Smith: I am buying Gordon low right now where I can. I am not concerned. The offensive line is terrible and the team as a whole is playing poorly. Way too soon to start burying this guy.
Katie Flower: I give him a rookie pass, I still don’t see the 3 down back in him, he still isn’t blocking and getting the trust to protect the qb, that may come down the road. He has shown enough to realize there are other significant issues that aren’t all his fault. I patiently hold in the 1 spot I own him. I am not buying low on him anywhere, not yet. If his value decreases any more in the off season I would consider it.
What are the odds Blaine Gabbert is the Week 1 starter in 2016?
Jordan Spires: I think the odds of Gabbert starting week 1 in 2016 are pretty good. I think Kaep gets a fair competition next year and fails to beat him out unless they change the offense in SF. SF has so many holes offensively with an aging and overall weak WR group, offensive line issues, and an aging defense at some spots. This would probably stop SF from investing high draft capital in a QB. I would put it at 75% chance Gabbert is SF week 1 starter next year.
Tim Torch: 66% that Gabbert is the start going into 2016. The 49ers have a record of 4-8 (8th pick overall) and may miss their shot to get one of the top QBs from this class if they win any more games. There is a chance that the 49ers of ’16 are the Texans of ’15 with good pieces in different places and missing their franchise quarterback.
Tim Smith: 66.67%. With all the needs this team has, I think they will wait on a quarterback until the middle rounds in 2016, a guy they can sit and develop behind Gabbert.
