Values of the Week
Ben Roethlisberger – $12,000 (vs BAL)
I do not often recommend paying up for quarterback, but Big Ben is the exception against a Ravens team who just wants to get to the off-season. With a game total of 48 1/2, by the Vegas odds, I do not see the Ravens keeping up and the Steelers are not ones to take their foot off the gas when they get going.
David Johnson – $10,900 (vs GB)
A 40 point game, ultra talented, in a good offense, and being priced outside of the top ten. This is the no brainer play of the week.
Ameer Abdullah – $7,400 (vs SF)
If you weren’t watching the game and only looking at the box score you would see stats and not get the full story of Abdullah. This past week he showed great burst, speed, good power, and had enough trust from the coaching stuff to get a second chance after a terrible fumble. Abdullah may finally be getting more run and he would be a play this week against a 49ers team who loves to give it up on the road.
Abdullah should only be a tournament play.
Brandin Cooks – $11,000 (vs JAX)
I am reserving the right to change this if Drew Brees is not playing. With all things said Cooks has had a good season and even has eight touchdowns on the season so far. To take things a step further the Jags are giving up about 100 yards and a touchdown to team’s opposing top wide receivers every game. Cooks is a must start.
Dorial Green-Beckham – $7,800 (vs HOU)
There is a significant difference between Mettenberger and Mariota. Part of the difference is Mettenberger loads up and gives his wide receivers a chance to make a play on the ball. DGB is another tournament play to be excited about.
Austin Seferian-Jenkins – $7,400 (vs CHI)
Finally, we are starting to see ASJ get into the swing of things. ASJ could have easily had a bigger game last week and Winston still went back to him after multiple bone headed plays.
Players To Avoid
Tom Brady – $14,100 (vs NYJ)
Brady is a great quarterback and has put up some great numbers this year. With all of that said he isn’t putting up weekly eye-popping numbers weekly and rarely doubles his value. If I need someone to win an NFL game I will call Brady, but if I need someone to get solid value from their DFS price I will look elsewhere.
Lamar Miller – $12,100 (vs IND)
Another pick I could come to regret. The Colts have a bad defense and the Dolphins could run all over them. On the other hand the Dolphins could decide to go with Ajayi again and not allow Miller to get double-digit touches. Miller would be a good tournament pivot, but I am not letting him anywhere near my cash games.
Devonta Freeman – $14,100 (vs CAR)
Very few running backs have ever had the stretch run similar to what Freeman had earlier this season and his value is still riding those numbers. Freeman is still a great running back, but I cannot trust Freeman in a match-up where they were shut out just a couple of weeks ago.
Calvin Johnson – $14,000 (vs SF)
MEGATRON IS JUST NOT RIGHT. Stop me if you’ve heard this before. His ankle was rolled up on in the Saints game and he just wasn’t right all night. Golden Tate has outproduced him since Thanksgiving.
Travis Kelce – $8,100 (vs CLE)
From week to week Kelce has gotten you between 8-13 points every week, but out of a tight end as talented as Kelce I would hope for more. The Chiefs should be running all day against the Browns and there just isn’t enough value in Kelce to play him.
Stack of the Week
Cam Newton ($14,100) + Ted Ginn Jr ($9,800) + Greg Olsen ($13,300) = $37,200
I am running with Cam being the fuel this team is looking for on offense and being able to keep it up. The last game Cam put up three touchdowns and I don’t see things getting any worse this week. If anything we could see another big fireworks show by this offense.
Russell Wilson ($13,700) + Ted Ginn Jr ($9,800) + Doug Baldwin ($12,600) = $36,100
This is my recency play of the week. If you want to ride the hot hands and play guys who have been off the charts lately here is your stack. Still all the above are undervalued this week and great plays if you want to keep riding the hot streak.
