Trading Post

This dynasty trade was made during mid-November in a 20-team league with 20 man rosters. Starters include 1-1-2-1-2Flex-1K-1D/ST. This team has arrived in Year 2 and has strong championship aspirations at 9-2.

The Approach

A 20-team league is in essence a 2QB and 2TE league due to starting requirements.  In fact, you could argue these positions should be valued more highly than a typical 12-team 2QB league since there are 20 teams looking to secure a viable backup.  Tight end specifically has been a need for this team with a rotation of Ladarius Green and Austin Seferian-Jenkins not posting many fantasy points.  My initial attempts to secure both a tight end and quarterback to add to my rotations did not go far. When the other owner expressed interest in Kirk Cousins, we were able to finalize a deal quickly.

The Trade

Gave Kirk Cousins, Devontae Booker

Received Jameis Winston, Zach Ertz

While Cousins is posting crazy stats this year, I do not see him as a long-term play.  He reminds me of an Andy Dalton or Jay Cutler player who can post a solid statistical season, but will not be an elite talent at any point in his career.  Giving up Devontae Booker leaves me extremely thin at running back, but since this is a start-1 league, I will be able to limp by if LeVeon Bell goes down.

Adding Jameis Winston was the headliner of the trade, but in the 20-team format, Zach Ertz gives me a solid starter at a position I have been taking zeros this year.  This upgrade far exceeds what I expect to lose this year moving from Cousins to Winston.  Long term I consider this a massive win as Winston is improving and moving towards elite quarterback status.

Post-Trade Roster

Jameis Winston, Tony Romo, Jimmy Garoppolo

LeVeon Bell, Fitzgerald Toussaint, Peyton Barber

Mike Evans, Brandin Cooks, DeVante Parker, Josh Doctson, Davante Adams, Larry Fitzgerald, Sammie Coates, Michael Floyd

Zach Ertz, Ladarius Green, Austin Seferian-Jenkins

2017 1,1,2,2

2018 1,2,3,3

2019 1,2,2,3,3,4

Takeaways

A dynasty owner should never stop improving their roster.  Even sitting on a 9 game winning streak and the second highest point total, this trade continues to build towards establishing a dynasty.  Take advantage of leagues with late or no trade deadlines and keep churning your roster.  Do not be afraid of selling production on your contending teams in the right circumstances.
