Trading Post

This dynasty trade was made in mid-November in a 12-team PPR league, start 1-2-3-1-2Flex. 30 man rosters with a 2-year taxi squad for all drafted rookies.

The Approach

Week 11’s injuries affected many dynasty teams.  While my team lost Giovanni Bernard to an ACL tear, I also noticed the team in first place lost their last startable tight end when Zach Miller broke his foot.  With my crowded committee of tight ends including Coby Fleener, Dennis Pitta, Jack Doyle and Clive Walford, the breakout of C.J. Fiedorowicz allowed me the opportunity to shop a tight end.

The Trade

Gave C.J. Fiedorowicz, Matt Asiata

Received 2017 2nd

Adding Matt Asiata was an easy way to sweeten the deal as the other owner also holds Jerick McKinnon.  While this 2nd round pick is going to be in the 20-24 overall range, the depth of the 2017 class should extend to this pick.  This also is my fifth 2017 2nd round pick giving me almost complete control of this round.  With the unlimited two-year taxi squad, I do not have to worry about roster space with all of these picks.

Takeaways

Sitting on the line between making the playoffs and just missing out is a challenging place to be for a dynasty owner.  Being the last team out is the worst outcome. Inversely, sometimes the last team to make the playoffs can catch a hot streak and win a title.  This team has the potential to do so after starting 0-4.  Even in a win-or-go-home scenario, dynasty owners must continue to look to the future.  While many sites preach buying production from bottom end teams, do not forget to check the playoff teams for opportunities to exploit an injury or a weakness in their lineups.  Even a late 1st or 2nd round pick is still a valuable commodity come draft day.
