Trading Post

This dynasty trade was made shortly after the 2017 season ended in a 10-team non-PPR league that starts 1-2-3-1-2Flex. I took this team over as an orphan before the 2015 season and am now ready to compete in 2017.

The Approach

Tyreek Hill was a $6 waiver wire addition in October for my team but was unable to get me over the hill into the playoffs in 2016.  While I love the talent and potential, I am not sold on Hill long-term. While a 2017 1st was my goal in a deal, I found little traction on getting a 1st back in any deal. When I acquired A.J. Green in a separate deal, Hill became expendable. I wanted to add draft capital to balance what I sent in the Green deal.

The Trade

Gave Tyreek Hill, 3.09

Received 2.01, 2018 2

Since this is a 10-team league that includes a toilet bowl compensatory 1st round pick, the 2.01 will be 12th overall. I expect this pick to either land me a premium piece or allow me to move up in the 1st round. With roster spots being a bit tight in this league, the late 3rd might not make my week 1 roster.

Post-Trade Roster Highlights

Jameis Winston, Cam Newton

Devonta Freeman, Jordan Howard, Kenneth Dixon, Jonathan Stewart

A.J. Green, Randall Cobb, Donte Moncrief, Michael Crabtree, Will Fuller, Kevin White, Martavis Bryant, Leonte Carroo

Travis Kelce, Tyler Eifert, Cameron Brate

2017 1.08, 1.09, 2.01, 2.08, 2.09

2018 2,2,3,4,5

Takeaways

Sometimes the best strategy is to get what you can. It is too easy to get caught up in ADP value or hearing on twitter a player is worth something. The reality is value is too subjective for this to be an absolute.  Each league is different and every owner would make different trades even with the same assets. Enter trade negotiations with an open mind as you have no idea where your trade partner values your players or their own. Even selling low may be the best option for you as an owner. In a vacuum, you could argue Hill is worth more than pick 12 and a likely late future 2nd. However, I could not find a trade partner willing to give me a better deal. Since I do not believe in Hill as a long-term asset, I would rather sell too early than be stuck holding him if the market crashes.
