Trading Post

This dynasty trade was made as we approached the rookie draft in early July in a 14-team .5ppr superflex league with some unique settings. Starting lineups are 1-2-2-1-2Flex-1SFlex-3IDP-1K. Some highlights of the scoring include .1 points per return yard, big play/big game bonuses as well as boosted passer scoring across the board.

The Approach

The other owner, after taking over an orphan this offseason made it clear he was looking to reshape his team with the 2016 draft class. I immediately expressed interest in Mike Evans.  There is so much about Evans to love.  Evans and Randy Moss are the only two players that have two 1000 yard seasons at the age of 22.  Evans’ 12 touchdowns as a rookie are tied with Odell Beckham for No.3 behind Moss’s 17 (1998) and John Jefferson’s 13 (1978).  He was taken with the No.7 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, ahead of Beckham.  He is tied to a 22-year-old franchise quarterback in Jameis Winston who I am acquiring everywhere I can.

Do not put much stock into the perceived down year in 2015.  Despite playing with a rookie quarterback, Evans increased his receptions and yardage from year one to year two.  In 2014, Evans scored six red zone touchdowns and has the tools to be a dominant red zone target.  However, in 2015 he only scored two red zone touchdowns while Jameis Winston scored six on the ground.  Expect these touchdowns to shift to Evans as Winston does not project as a rushing threat.

When the other owner expressed interest in DeVante Parker plus for Mike Evans, we quickly struck a deal.

The Trade

Gave DeVante Parker, 1.9, 4.14

Received Mike Evans, 2017 2nd

While I have high hopes for DeVante Parker taking the next step in 2016 in Miami, this was a no-brainer for me.  While the 1.9 pick holds slightly more value in superflex than a regular league, it is a fair price to move up to Evans.  The 2017 2nd was basically free and is likely to land a quality player as it projects as a very early 2nd.  The trade also frees up two roster spots in a relatively shallow league considering the IDP element.

My Post Trade Roster

Cam Newton, Drew Brees, Matt Ryan

Todd Gurley, Carlos Hyde, Mark Ingram, Charles Sims, Jonathan Stewart, Dwayne Washington

Mike Evans, Brandin Cooks, Keenan Allen, A.J. Green, Donte Moncrief, Sammie Coates, Davante Adams, Josh Gordon

Zach Ertz, Gary Barnidge, Jimmy Graham, Maxx Williams, Vance McDonald

Luke Kuechley, Ryan Shazier, Malcolm Brown, Derron Lee

2017 1,2,2,3,3,4,4,5

Takeaways

As mentioned in a previous article, approach all new owners in your league to see if you can swing a deal for a player or package that might otherwise be unattainable.  Also, reach out to the Mike Evans owner and get a feel for his price.  I’ve seen Evans as low as 15 on a respected analyst’s dynasty rankings.  This may be your last chance to get Evans at a discount.
