Trading Post

This dynasty trade was made during mid-November in a 20-team league with 20 man rosters. Starters include 1-1-2-1-2Flex-1K-1D/ST. This team has arrived in year two and has strong championship aspirations at 8-2.

The Approach

My 2016 dynasty team goal was to consolidate talent to avoid painful offseason cuts.  With a solid core of wide receivers and a maximum of 4 starters, I identified Mike Evans as a target.  I have recently put Evans above Odell Beckham Jr. as my top dynasty receiver.

The Trade

Gave Allen Robinson, Christine Michael, 18 1st

Received Mike Evans, 18 3rd

Surprisingly my opening offer of Davante Adams and Allen Robinson was not accepted but countered with Allen Robinson and a 2017 1st.  With this being a 20-team league, playoff team 1sts are more like typical 2nd round picks. Since my team is thin at running back behind LeVeon Bell, I am expecting to take several of them in the 2017 draft.  For this reason, being able to agree on moving the pick to 2018 was a major win.

Post-Trade Roster

Kirk Cousins, Tony Romo, Jimmy Garoppolo

LeVeon Bell, Devontae Booker, Fitzgerald Toussaint, Peyton Barber

Mike Evans, Brandin Cooks, DeVante Parker, Josh Doctson, Davante Adams, Larry Fitzgerald, Sammie Coates, Michael Floyd

Ladarius Green, Austin Seferian-Jenkins

2017 1,1,2,2

2018 1,2,3,3

2019 1,2,2,3,3,4

Takeaways

While I do not advocate selling a young receiver like Allen Robinson at his lowest value, this is not bailing on him because I was able to land a better asset as part of the deal. I still see Robinson as a core asset, but it may take a few years for the situation in Jacksonville to improve to the point where he and Evans are producing the same numbers.

I am hoping to make a few more deals this year before the trade deadline to consolidate further and free up more roster space going into offseason. Take this time to look at your rosters from a 2017 roster cuts standpoint.  Now is the best time to make a deal to free up a roster spot.
