Trading Post

This dynasty trade was made in a typical 12-team ppr league with 30 roster spots and unlimited 2-year taxi squad spots for drafted rookies. My team is a solid competitor but disappointed with a 4th place finish last year.

The Approach

I was extremely high on Kenneth Dixon’s potential last year. When I did my offseason market shares, I owned him in nearly 75% of my leagues. With this year’s crop of running backs entering the NFL, I am concerned that any non-entrenched NFL running backs may see a drastic decrease in value come draft day. Though the Ravens came out publically to praise Dixon, they could easily draft a running back in the top-100 to replace their 5th round pick from last year. Since this trade was completed, multiple pieces of news have come out devaluing Dixon in my rankings. The signing of Danny Woodhead decreases the potential pass game volume and Dixon was suspended for PEDs.

The Trade

Executed March 8th, 2017

Gave Kenneth Dixon, 2.05

Received 1.09

With my team’s solid core of young talent, there is no need to shake the boat. After several in-season trades, I gathered five 2nd round picks along with a 1st in this draft class. I was hoping to get a late 1st for Dixon, but could not find a suitor interested in moving one. Most owners I reached out to refused to make any moves until after the NFL draft. When the 1.09 was made available my hope was to move one of my late 2nd round picks with Dixon, but the other owner remained firm on the 2.05 being included.  As much as I covet the early 2nd round picks, the 1.09 will allow me to add a high-caliber rookie to my roster.

Takeaways

Even when you cannot find a trade easily, do not give up. This is a trade two months in the making.  I have sent out close to 20 trade offers to move Dixon to get into the 1st round. One of the most challenging parts of the dynasty offseason is the differing levels of activity from owners. Once the other owner checked into the league site, we were able to negotiate fairly quickly.  When your offers initially go unanswered, do not hesitate to send them again or attempt to engage the owner through text, email, or twitter. Sometimes getting a response is the only thing keeping trades from going through.
