Summer is officially here, but if you play dynasty fantasy football, it is really Christmas.  No, I have not lost my faculties or my calendar, hear me out.

For those of you who had their rookie drafts soon after the NFL draft, you need to be watching your leaguemates drops and waiver wire pick-ups.  Because of rookie camp and OTA news, people are getting more information, this can be a good thing for you.

Impatient owners will forget why they picked up certain players in the 2nd and 3rd round and will drop them the moment news on someone else creates some positive buzz, literally chasing the shiny new toy.

I haven’t seen any major drops yet, but I do have a friend that last year was able to get Odell Beckham off the waiver wire because he was dropped due to his injury.  That one pick up was a huge reason my friend won the championship and is poised for a dynamic dynasty run.

Even the smaller drops of guys like DeAndre Smelter who has received no negative news, but he hasn’t had any positive news either.  That owner hears that Marquess Wilson is ahead of Kevin White, so he trades to get Wilson and drops Smelter in the process.  You in turn are ready to swoop in and pick up Smelter.

In order to pick up the good and better drops, you will need to have a good handle on your own fliers.  Don’t just drop one guy for the shiny new toy.  Keep your watch list and rankings up to date and if you need to, go back and watch film on the guy you are about to drop, as well as the guy you are about to pick up.

Other ways that it is Christmas involve trades.  A guy like Kelvin Benjamin showing up 10 pounds overweight and already has a hamstring injury could make for an ideal buy low or lower situation.  Or you may also be able to trade for Funchess if that owner hasn’t been paying attention.

As the summertime buzz turns into the full steam hype train, take advantage of the waiver wire and keep the trade offers flowing.

Just as we package up a player and draft pick to get a better draft pick, now is the time to package up some buzz worthy two for one deals.  Two guys that are near your cut bubble can turn into one more solid prospect, and doing this a couple of times through the summer months, makes for less cuts later and strengthens your backups.
