Dynasty Trade Review from UTH Subscriber Jordan McNamara. Find him on twitter @jsmcnamara2.
This is a dynasty trade that I made in early-August in a 12-team PPR league. There are roster limits of 23 players and starting requirements of 1-1-3-1, 2 Flex, Kicker and Defense.
Dynasty Trade: The Approach
This was an orphan I took over last year and did plenty of roster churning. I think can be competitive for a league title this year. I had two late thirds and an early fourth, and with the shallow rosters and weak rookie class, I liked my talent on my roster more than I could draft at those spots. I also had a lot of receiver talent that I like but may need to sit on for a year. With five picks in the top-24 I felt I could consolidate my talent to better structure my team to compete this year. I set out looking for a top-24 receiver. I found an owner who I felt was itching to trade. She wanted Kevin White, but I countered with some help with her rebuild. She asked for a second next year and I countered with my two thirds this year and the deal was done.
The Trade
Gave Corey Coleman, Sammie Coates, Nelson Agholor, 3.10, 3.12
Received Randall Cobb, Greg Olsen, Theo Riddick
As the negotiations developed, I set my targets on Cobb and knew I would not include White in a deal for him. The central figure I gave was Corey Coleman. I own both Sammie Coates and Corey Coleman in over half of my leagues so I am not anti either player, but I do not like Coleman’s immediate situation. I do not trust Robert Griffin III and I think the uncertainty in the Cleveland offense hurts Coleman’s stock over the next year, and I think he could be reacquired for a late 2017 1st in six months.
Conversely, I think Cobb’s stock goes up over the next year. He is back healthy, with an offense that will return Jordy Nelson and Cobb is still 26. He is being priced as a low-end WR2 or high-end WR3, and I think he could return low-end WR1 or high-end WR2 production. I also liked Greg Olsen as some added production in the tight end spot where I only owned Dwayne Allen. The other owner practically threw in Theo Riddick, who I like as some added depth at running back.
I also liked the trade because it frees up some roster space to allow me to keep two additional players who I like who were not going to return much trade value like Ty Montgomery, Justin Hardy, James White and Kamar Aiken into the season.
Overall, I may have been able to get a little more value, but felt it was a solid return to strengthen my ability to contend for a title in 2016.
