One exercise I have found very helpful is to take stock of all your dynasty teams each year. While it is very simple to review an individual team, I’ve found looking at your portfolio of leagues can be helpful in understanding if you have too much exposure in specific players or if there are players you may be able to target in more leagues. Here are my ownership stats for the wide receiver position across my 10 leagues. These are my 2016 Dynasty Market Shares at the position for reference.

Wide Receivers

  • 5 Marqise Lee
  • 5 Kevin White
  • 4 Davante Adams
  • 4 Mike Evans
  • 4 Devin Funchess
  • 4 Jordan Matthews
  • 3 Tavon Austin
  • 3 Brandin Cooks
  • 3 Will Fuller
  • 3 Eli Rogers
  • 3 John Ross

2 shares of Keenan Allen, Odell Beckham, Martavis Bryant, Corey Coleman, Michael Crabtree, Corey Davis, Josh Doctson, A.J. Green, Julio Jones, Donte Moncrief, DeVante Parker, Allen Robinson and others

Takeaways

This is the core of a dynasty owner’s portfolio. With the longevity of the wide receiver position, having a solid core of receivers is vital. While my portfolio has several speculative plays, there are significant contributors and elite assets near the top of my list in Davante Adams, Mike Evans and Brandin Cooks. One difference on this list from last year’s is owning ‘aging’ studs Julio Jones and A.J. Green in two leagues each. Similarly to my acquisition of LeVeon Bell and Ezekiel Elliott in a few leagues, I have been attempting to package up into studs at a reasonable price. All four shares were purchased near the trade deadline or during the offseason from teams in rebuilding mode. Teams in this state of mind are more willing to sell these elite assets early for a mild discount. See here and here for articles about specific trades made. While I am not willing to sell the farm to acquire players close to or north of 30, packaging up upside players and mid to late first round picks in a deal for them is a move I’m willing to make.

Last year’s version of this market share series included buy recommendations on Davante Adams, Mike Evans and Jordan Matthews at their market price. That was reflected by my ownership stats. This year I see the potential for Marqise Lee, Kevin White, and Devin Funchess to take the next step towards fantasy relevance and I am acquiring them where possible.  All three have significant draft pedigree and are extremely discounted in the dynasty markets. I also believed Sammie Coates had the potential to show better than he did in late 2016 until his recent knee injury. I believe he is still worth a stash in medium-deep leagues.
