This time of year I like to stock up on cheap IDP veterans with upside, as others are coming down with the dreaded rookie fever. Most often I find myself digging through the lowly owned defensive players because of expiring contracts in salary/contract leagues and veteran drafts. Below are some players with low ownership according to MFL and solid performance according to Pro Football Focus (PFF). The players are listed by order of ownership in each position. The format of the player line is: name, team, owned percentage, and age. Take a stroll with me through the IDP thrift shop.

If you are craving IDP rookie information instead, check out the latest post combine tiers:

Safeties

Patrick Chung, NEP, 4.77%, 27

Chung graded out as the number twelve corner at PFF, and recently signed a nice three-year deal with the Patriots. Chung should be a fixture of the Patriots’ defense for years to come.

Will Hill, FA, 3.79%, 25

There is some serious risk with his multitude of off field issues. When Hill does play he shows off impressive skills, illustrated by his top 15 PFF ranking. Hill could sign a nice deal, although I am hoping it is with a team that can help keep him stay on the straight and narrow.

Bradley McDougald, TBB, 2.9%, 24

The 2013 UDFA does not have elite athleticism, but looked good starting the last five games for the Buccaneers. McDougald should continue to hold the starting position due to the weaker safety draft class this year.

Jaiquawn Jarrett, FA, 2.66%, 25

Jarrett nabbed the starting safety position along aside Calvin Prior with the Jets last year. Jarrett played well grading out in the top 30 safeties at PFF. The former second round pick seems to have things figured out now and should be a starter even if he ends up signing a deal away from the Jets.

Darian Stewart, FA, 2.52%, 26

Stewart graded out positively at PFF playing for Baltimore on 782 snaps. Stewart is someone to watch where he lands and if he can grab a starting job. The long-term upside really is not here, but he could be a cheap one year fill in for a needy fantasy team.

Duke Williams, BUF, 2.10%, 24

Williams played reasonably well and should hold down a starting safety position with Da’Norris Searcy most likely leaving in free agency. I am not sure how many years Williams can stay a starter, but should have solid scoring in 2015.
