Each year there are players, whether due to age or situation, that are either on the verge of losing their NFL gig to young up and comers, or their overall IDP dynasty value.  It is tough to get value for your IDP players in fantasy football, so here is some help and quick takes on players to “get into” and “get out of” for 2017.

* NOTE: This advice is not meant to be a slash and burn strategy, but rather, a value based proposal. Only you know your team and scoring, so value must be determined on a case-by-case basis. Always happy to help though, so drop me a line at dynastyidp@gmail.com or tweet me @AskDynastyIDP if you have questions.

Get into Sean Davis, PIT S (23):  Tenacious, on Pittsburgh, with the ability to both cover and hit.  Enough said.  I thought the same about Shamarko Thomas, but he could never take over or stay healthy enough to produce (he was also an older prospect when he came out).  The Steelers are not shy about redundancy and competition on their roster at positions they feel are necessary for their success (See Martavis Bryant and Sammie Coates).  Davis has won this battle.  Acquire him where you can.  He could be the 1A to Landon Collins by 2018.

Get into Byron Jones, DAL S (24):  Jones, a former 1st rd pick that no one is talking about, plays in a safety-friendly, cover-2 based scheme.  His opportunities and value are on the rise because Barry Church, who is 28, is beginning to wear down given his physical style.  This converted CB will continue to grow in his role and will produce nicely for your team.

Get out of Da’Norris Searcy, TEN S (28):  The veteran SS has always been a “what if” guy that flashes for a game or two, but then gets injured right as he is making his push to become a solid DB2.  It happened in Buffalo and now in Tennessee.  He is 28.  It is just not going to happen for him.

Get out of Chicago S’s  – Harold Jones-Quartey, CHI S (23) & Adrian Amos, CHI S (23):  Chicago has been a wasteland for S play ever since Mike Brown’s career got derailed by injuries.  The NFL has been changing and you need playmakers in the backend of your defense to compete.  Sell these guys based on their youth and apparent hold on the position since Chicago has no depth there, but know their apparent value is a mirage.  Chicago will address its safety position in the draft or free agency.  In his end of the year address the Bears GM, Ryan Pace,  stated, “I honestly think we need to add more playmakers to our secondary.  We need to add more ball skills to our secondary.  That’s on me and we’ll do that.”

Get out of Josh Norman, WAS CB (29) & Jason McCourty, TEN CB (29):  These veterans have been great to own, but father time always wins.  The drop-off is severe in the NFL and fantasy when CB’s close in on 30.  In the case of McCourty, he just can’t stay healthy.  If you cannot get anything for them, then hold until the end.  If, however, you can reset the clock or get a promising young S (via trade or on the waiver wire), then make the deal/stash for 2017.
