IDP is all about opportunity. The “next man up” mentality is not only prevalent in NFL coaching circles but is for your IDP squad. Below is a list of guys to keep on your radar, or grab in deeper leagues, because they are breakout candidates, undervalued or are true sleepers. Keep this list for trade and waiver wire targets. These acquisitions could fill in nicely for your IDP squad this year.
This article series is a true sleeper/undervalued player profiling. I will not be “cherry picking” from the easy answers on each team’s roster. With that said, what IDP help would I be if I just ignored the “low hanging fruit”, so make sure you watch out for these guys in smaller leagues and roster them in deep leagues:
- Derek Wolf, DEN DE
- Todd Davis, DEN LB
- Shane Ray, DEN LB
- Justin Simmons, DEN S
- Ramik Wilson, KCC LB
- Dee Ford, KCC LB
- Corey Liuget, LAC DT (DT only special)
- Rayshawn Jenkins, LAC S
- Bruce Irvin, OAK LB
- Obi Melifonwu, OAK S
Kansas City Chiefs
Chris Jones, KCC DE. 28 tackles, 5 TFL and 2 sacks last year. Those TFL and sack numbers will AT LEAST double this year.
Denver Broncos
DeMarcus Walker, DEN DE. I do not know how he is getting knocked so much during the draft/rookie process. I may be the highest on him, and he’ll be a situational pass rusher this year … but he is extremely good at getting off blocks. That skill translates to NFL playing time. I like him to flash this year and build on it faster than Ray has in Denver.
Oakland Raiders
Jelani Jenkins, OAK LB. Everyone is falling in love with rookie Marquel Lee. Give me the WLB that has already posted a 110 tackle season and is taking the spot where Malcolm Smith put up back-to-back 100 tackle seasons.
Los Angeles Chargers
Melvin Ingram, LAC DE. He’s not a sleeper, but he is undervalued. He will be a DE1 this year (or at worse very high DE2). Bosa is going to take a step in year 2, take pressure of him, and his explosion is going to finally show up. I was concerned with the franchise tag and him holding out, but he signed an extension. Get him where you can.
