Week 1 of the college season featured matchups of top teams and plenty of exciting action and the play on the field did not disappoint. Week 2 leaves much to be desired as there are no matchups between ranked opponents and most feature double-digit spreads. This does not mean that there are not games and players to watch. Here are the games and devy players that I will be focused on this weekend…

SMU at Baylor

Courtland Sutton dominated Northern Texas in Week 1 posting a 4-162-3 line, and will likely be as involved in a matchup against Baylor. While Sutton’s four catches might seem a bit concerning, SMU only completed 13 for the entire game. In a game that Baylor is a 31.5 point favorite, expect to see Sutton involved early and often (at least until SMU pulls their starters).

On the opposite side, KD Cannon is who I will be watching. Cannon posted 5-46-1 in Baylor’s Week 1 matchup with Northwestern State to lead Baylor in receptions and receiving yards. I am hoping that he can put together more ‘video game’ numbers moving forward in Baylor’s offense.

Tulsa at Ohio State

The headliners of this matchup will be Mike Weber and Curtis Samuel. Weber posted 19 carries for 136 yards and is the power back. Curtis Samuel posted amazing receiving numbers (9-177-2) to go along with a solid rushing performance (13-84-1). This will be an interesting backfield to monitor.  If one back can win the job outright, their devy stock will skyrocket.

It will be interesting to see what Keevan Lucas can do against the stout Ohio State Defense. Lucas was Tulsa’s top receiver before suffering a torn patella tendon early in 2015, making way for Keyarris Garrett to shine and become draft twitter’s favorite big wide receiver.  Lucas posted 6-112 in his first game back from the injury.
