With only three weeks remaining in the 2016 season, our focus will shift to prospects that are eligible in 2018.  We will have ample opportunity to study the incoming rookies throughout the draft process, but this will be the last chance to see the 2018 players on the field leading into the offseason.  This is the time to get a head start on your 2017 devy drafts.

Florida at LSU

While the 2018 eligible headliner in this game is LSU running back Derrius Guice, my focus will be on Florida’s skill positions.  Sophomore back Jordan Scarlett is rising up devy ranks with a solid 2017 season.  The 4-star recruit has posted 617 yards on 118 carries with 6 touchdowns.  I want to see how he fares in a difficult road game.

Florida wide receiver Antonio Callaway is leading the Gators in all major receiving categories with 35 receptions for 533 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Despite the off-field issues, Callaway’s production makes him a must-watch devy prospect.  Also, watch to see if 4-star recruit, true freshman Tyrie Cleveland can get on the field after missing last week’s game.

Virginia Tech at Notre Dame

Notre Dame has a solid group of skill position players returning for 2017.  Thier top receiver Equanimeous St. Brown and top running back Josh Adams are both sophomores.  Adams still must take a step forward during the remainder of the year and into next to improve his draft stock.  I am impressed with his involvement in both the rushing and receiving games and believe he could break out next year if he can secure the job.

St. Brown is the clear #1 for the Fighting Irish and has posted 45 catches for 777 yards and 8 touchdowns after only one catch during his freshman year. The 4-star recruit has great size at 6’4″ 205 lbs and still could add weight to his frame.  I have been impressed with St. Brown this year and he has the potential to be the top receiver in the 2018 NFL draft class.

Ohio State at Michigan State

Redshirt freshman running back Mike Weber has been the physical between the tackle back for the Buckeyes and has surrendered passing game work to 2017 eligible Curtis Samuel.  While Samuel has received all the attention this year due to his explosiveness, Weber has been consistent with 152 carries for 935 yards and 7 touchdowns. If Samuel continues to impress and leaves for the NFL draft, Mike Weber will be a target of mine in devy leagues this offseason.

Running Back L.J. Scott has been the only bright spot for a disappointing Spartans team.  The season-long numbers have been average, but Scott’s best game came against the toughest competition he faced. This matchup against the Buckeyes will be another chance for Scott to perform above his situation.
