When it comes to wide receiver prospects by the metrics, a high athleticism score combine with a low production score is the definition of a ‘boom-bust’ dynasty commodity.
Since 2011, only two top-100 NFL Draft picks qualified for the moniker with athleticism scores of greater than +25% and a production score of less than -25%. Those were Cordarrelle Patterson and Marquise Goodwin. Plenty of UDFA options fit this criteria of late and 59 total since 1999 qualify.
Brandon Marshall is the only significant ‘hit’ of the 59 names with 400+ career VBD to his credit. Rod Gardner is the only other boom-bust prospect to even log a single starter-caliber fantasy season to-date.
2014: A Look Back
- Martavis Bryant
- Quincy Enunwa
Both were dynasty relevant names to fit this group. Bryant saw plenty of ‘boom’ moments as a rookie, finishing with 13 PPG and now is a top-50 dynasty asset. Quincy Enunwa is more of the ‘bust’ with a crowded depth chart and little chance to get much opportunity without a change of scenery.
